Test Results

Matt had his Doctor appointment last Wednesday. Matt was informed that he has another tumor on his bladder, a spot in his right abdomen and some in his pelvic bone. Doctor Holen felt that if Dr. Sugarbaker was willing to do another surgery and the insurance lets us go to Washington D C again that Matt should start with Chemo. Doctor Holen explained to us it would not be go to do radiation at this time. Radiation would make it difficult to do another surgery. It would cause to much scar tissue build up to get through.

Doctor Holen explained the kind of chemo that Dr. Sugarbaker wanted he to try. The drug name is Cetuximab. He is to do it once a week for an hour. The first week (this last Friday, Aug 27) was to last about 3 hours. After that it will only take about a hour. There are a few side affects. This drug causes bad acne and possible rash on his body. They say these are good side affects. This means the drug is working. His skin will be sensitive to the sun.

Matt had his first chemo. Matt showed no signs of allergic reaction to the drug. It made him very tired. We found out that his CEA tumor marker test went up to 14.7. It took another jump from 9.7.

Matt and his family ask for prayers that this chemo will help and for a miracle that this cancer goes away!

Thank you to everyone for your continued support!

Pet Scan Result

We met with Dr. Holen on Wednesday. Dr. Holen show the pet scan on the computer. It showed that Matt had a tumor on his bladder, a spot of cancer growing in his right abdomen and some cancer has gotten in his pelvic bone. Dr Holen was waiting to hear from Dr. Sugarbaker as to the next step.

Dr. Holen got a chance to talk to Dr. Sugarbaker yesterday. Dr. Sugarbaker decided that the tumor on Matt's bladder is a very difficult surgery. He felt it was best to try and use chemo to shrink the tumor and then Matt would decide if he would want to do surgery. If Matt were to decide to do surgery he would end up with a colostomy for sure.

Matt is going to start with chemo next week for several months. He will go once a week to Johnson creek cancer center. He will get the chemo through an IV for an hour each week. Then he will have another CT scan to see if the chemo is shrinking the tumor at all.

I ask all to pray for Matt. Pray for the chemo to work and shrink the tumor and disappear! Please pray for a miracle for Matt!

God the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, you sent your son bring healing.
We pray for all of you who are broken in body, mind, and spirit.
Give Health and wholeness to all persons. Bless the work of all who care for sick.
Strengthen them through the Holy Spirit.

Pet Scan

Matt had his Pet scan yesterday. It took two hours. The first hour they injected the dye into Matt. They wanted him to lay still for the dye to go through his body for a hour. They asked him if he wanted them to play music but he said "no" he would rather take a nap. After a hour they woke him up and moved him on to a table where the scanner machine was. The explained that the machine would take pictures of different areas. It stays in one spot for about 5 minutes and move on to the next area. They asked Matt again if he would like to listen to music and he said "no" he would finish his nap. They gave him warm blanket and he took another 45 minute nap.

They said the results would be in by later in the afternoon. They said Dr. Eastman can look on the computer and access the results right away Friday. I called Johnson Creek Clinic to have the results faxed to Dr. Sugarbaker so he can take a look at it and help direct us on what path we should be taking. We get together on Wednesday with the Doctor to make a plan.

I hope and prayer for directions that will best help Matt! Thank you for all your prayers!!!

Test Results

After talking with Dr. Sugarbaker it was decided that Matt needs a Pet CT-Scan. They found an area that they are not sure of so they want a better picture to see what is up. The results will be sent to Dr. Sugarbaker and he will confer with Dr. Holen as to the direction Matt needs to go.

Matt is scheduled for Friday, 8/13/10 at 8:45 in the morning in Madison. They do not do these type scans at Watertown Hospital. Federated Insurance has already pre autherized the procedure.

We then have a Doctor appointment in Johnson Creek with Dr. Kyle Holen on Wednesday, 8/18/10 to discuss the results.

Matt really appreciates all the prayers everyone had done for him! Thank you so much for your kind words and prayers.

Matt spent a hard day at work while Casey, Christine, Gavin and myself (Kitty) went to Milwaukee shopping for wedding flowers. We had a great afternoon until the call came from Johnson creek Clinic

Matt's number two month ago was 6.4 and as of 8/5/10 his number is 9.6. It took another big jump! I talked to Dr. Eastman and Matt is scheduled for labs and ct scan Monday morning. We have a Dr. appointment with Dr. Eastman on Tuesday to discuss the results and decide from here what options Matt has and what direction he wants to go.
